NGO Registration Completed

We received an email today from the director of our placement agency telling us that our agency's registration as an NGO has finally been completed. What remains is to acquire the remaining 3 of 6 required signatures for the accreditation renewal, and they expect to get those when the 3 accreditation ministers return from their vacations. Hopefully the accreditation will be finalized in mid-September, and then any closed regions will once again be open to adoption. We are working with an affiliate of the Frank Foundation, and while they have been awaiting their reaccreditation (since May) they have been continuing their work by processing their adoptions as independent.

So, with closed regions opening up in September after the accreditation is renewed, and with referrals expected to pick up after August has passed and everyone has returned from their summer holidays, perhaps our referral will not take quite so long. We are curerntly looking at January (or February with the Christmas holidays).

I cannot believe that the twins will be starting kindergarten in less than 3 weeks. It's coming so fast. I'm looking forward to having a little bit of time to myself again, but I also feel like my role as a mother is going to irreversibly change. Summer has been intentionally slow for us, aside from the couple of camping trips that we have taken. We've filled 4 weeks with swim lessons, and a couple of weekends with birthday parties, but otherwise it's been very low key. I know that's all about to change... but I'm in denial.

Some adoption things I need to do:

- sign the visa applications
- find out what's going on with the I171-H. (We received it, but only with approval to adopt one child, and we had requested approval to adopt two.)
- it's time to join FRUA for Northern CA
- learn adoption and travel-related Russian phrases

I've just been reading about Isabel and John's second trip to Russia to bring home their two girls. What an encouraging story! And they had their 10 day wait waived, too! They have inspired me to get going on the Russian phrases again. I currently have Pimsleur's Introduction to Russian (6 CDs, or something like that) and I'm nearly on the last lesson and I still haven't learned how to ask where the bathroom is. However, I do know how to tell you that you can have lunch at my place. I need something better. In the past I've managed to get around both Italy and France after listening to the Berlitz travel tapes and taking the tiny booklet with me. For those that learned some Russian and have traveled, what have you found to be the most helpful? Spaciba.

Oh good. Hopefully all three will return from vacation at the same time so that accreditation certificate gets signed right away.

If you'd like, send me an email (margaret308@charter.net) and I'll send you a list of Russian phrases I got during hosting. It won't help with travel phrases very much, but there are lots of phrases that will help you with your child(ren).

I hope your agency gets reaccredited soon. That should really start moving things along. Jan/Feb are not too far off!

Compared to us, you guys had the summer of a lifetime. Thanks for giving me some ideas.

I can't believe school is starting too. That was fast!

I don't know what to tell you about the Russian tapes. I need that advice too.

Glad to hear things may move faster than you anticipated. Hopefully those vacationing signers will come home soon.

In Oklahoma, school has already started. Three more weeks is good.

Loved the pics of your recent trip. How fun! You guys have quite an opportunity for great adventures.

So glad your agency recieved NGO. Re-accreditation shouldn't be too far behind.

Good luck learning Russian.

Congrats on the NGO! One step down.

Gehd-yeh Too-ahl-yet Pah-zhal-sta. (Where is the toilet please)

I did actually use this phrase in the orphanage. Just be cautious of the conditions you get when asking for a toilet. We often used the same restaurant in town for the toilet because we knew it was clean. The orphanage one on the other hand. Wish I had my camera for that one. Maybe next time.

Congratulations on your agency getting their NGO! One step closer!

I am so jealous of the beautiful scenes in your pictures! I want to pack up our camper and head to Lake Tahoe with the kids (and hubby!).

I had a website that I ordered my Russian cds from that were wonderful. It was simple phrases that you "need to know" vs. learning the whole Russian language. I'll try to find it and send it to you.

Hey, I found the website, but did not see an email link for you. I'm not sure of the "rules" for posting websites, but if you'll click on the email link on my blog, I'll gladly send you the address where I ordered my cds.

We had the same thing happen to us. We had put down for 3 kids and they approved us for two. I dont know if that is because on our homestudy we are requesting 2 or not. We wanted to be approved for 3 just in case we change our minds at the last minute or if 3 siblings are available, we didn't want to break them up

That is great news. We are with FAC in NC (Frank) and this is our 2nd time adopting from Russia. We didn't have to deal with NGO or anything like that before, so when I got the e-mail from Frank about the NGO, I knew it sounded like good news, but didn't know what in the world it meant.
Thanks for the clarification. It makes sense to me now.
